The Sugar Grove Public Library District has an opening for a Circulation Services Assistant. This position involves handling library materials (check-in, check-out, shelve, sort, inspect), and providing excellent customer service to our library patrons utilizing various computer programs and databases.
The right candidate will have:
Passion for providing excellent customer service and ability to build relationships
High attention to detail
Proficient in technology, including Microsoft Word & Excel, library database, and trouble-shooting basic computer and office equipment
Ability to multi-task at a busy desk and communicate effectively
Ability to follow directions; possess initiative to find other tasks to complete if all work is done
Hours and Benefits:
This is a part time, non-exempt position serving 20-25 hours a week with a mix of shifts including days, nights, and weekends during the Library’s operating hours. The Library is currently open Monday – Thursday 10am – 8 pm, Saturday 10am – 4pm, and is closed on Fridays and Sundays. The Library’s hours are likely to be adjusted within the next year.
Hourly salary range is between $15.00 - $17.00 per hour depending on experience. The Library offers a Health Reimbursement Account benefit of $1,700 per calendar year ($65 per paycheck). This position accrues PTO at a rate of 3.09 hours per paycheck and offers paid holidays.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma required.
- One (1) year of customer service work experience.
- Strong computer skills required including Microsoft Word, Office, and database management
- Ability to communicate clearly in written/spoken English.
About the Library:
The Sugar Grove Public Library District serves 16,114 residents including the Village of Sugar Grove, Sugar Grove Township, and some residents in Montgomery, Aurora, North Aurora, and Elburn. We are located 50 miles west of Chicago, minutes from I-88. Our facility is 26,000 square feet and was built in 2009. The Library is a member of the SWAN consortium and shares resources with 100 other member libraries. The Library is currently open 46 hours a week: Monday – Thursday: 10am- 8pm, Saturday 10am – 4pm. Hours will increase within the next year. Library voters approved increased operational funding for the budget year beginning July 2024, and we are looking for someone to grow with us!

Creative & passionate about serving children and their families?
Sugar Grove Public Library is searching for a part time Youth Services Librarian to serve children ages birth to 11 and their families/caregivers. Our community is growing and there is increasing demand for children’s programming, especially early childhood ages 0-5. The right person for this role will bring creativity, innovation, and energy to the community. This role also serves as Person in Charge in absence of management.
The Youth Librarian will be responsible for maintaining a portion of the children’s collection and will provide outreach services that foster community relationships with schools, homeschool groups, and child-care facilities.
Our library has been underfunded, but voters approved an operational increase in funding for the Sugar Grove Public Library District, which will arrive next summer July 2024. Our library is making preparations to our foundation for increased operations, and you’ll be a key part of creating services for our community. Take a virtual tour of our library on google maps!
This position provides a broad range of public services including:
Storytimes, activities, crafts, clubs, special events, summer reading program
Reader’s advisory and reference assistance including creating bibliography lists and displays.
Generates print materials to help market the library, programs, or materials.
Will be responsible for collection development for some areas in the youth library
Offsite outreach storytime and events
This position often helps with circulation and will be trained in that area for checking materials in/out, creating library cards, and processing fees.
Qualifications
MLIS preferred. An equivalent combination of education & experience in early childhood education will be considered.
Understanding and practice of ALA’s Code of Ethics
Two (2) year previous public library or other similar customer service focus experience preferred
Demonstrated excelled in verbal/written communication skills, including public speaking.
Strong computer skills required
Basic graphic design skills required, the Library uses Canva.
Hours and Benefits:
This is a part time, non-exempt position serving 25 hours a week with a mix of shifts including days, nights, and weekends during the Library’s operating hours. The Library is currently open Monday – Thursday 10am – 8 pm, Saturday 10am – 4pm, and is closed on Fridays and Sundays. The Library’s hours are likely to be adjusted within the next year.
Hourly salary range is between $18.00 - $24.00 per hour depending on experience. The Library offers a Health Reimbursement Account benefit of $1,700 per calendar year ($65 per paycheck). This position accrues PTO at a rate of 3.09 hours per paycheck and offers paid holidays.
This position’s hours will be increased to 30+ and be eligible for health insurance in 2024.
