There are seven, non-partisan, elected or appointed trustees on the Library Board. A standard term of office is six years. Appointments to the board are until the time of the next Consolidated Election in the Spring of an odd numbered year.
Trustees serve without compensation. Their commitment is currently for a two to three hour meeting twice a month as well as committee meetings throughout the year. Additional time invested in reading information on libraries, visiting other libraries, attending occasional conferences or workshops on issues important to our library service, all serve to make the task a bit easier.
The Library Board hires the Library Director to oversee the day to day operation of the library facility and services. The Board is responsible for the levying of tax money for library operation, setting library policy and defining the Library through a Mission Statement:
" Our mission is to actively participate in the development of a strong, literate and well-informed community by serving as a cornerstone of learning and as the heart of our community. We will be a unique resource providing open access to a variety of materials that foster opportunities for learning. As the heart of our community, we will support democracy, citizenship, and cultural growth of the Sugar Grove Public Library District."
